Coalition of Ordered Governments

The Vulcan Cannon was a Coalition of Ordered Governments two-man heavy weapon that was in humanity's struggle against the Locust Horde and the all-consuming Lambent Swarm.

Despite its large size, weight and the fact that it required two coordinated personnel to be used effectively, there was no doubting the Vulcan's astonishing firepower which was capable of reducing a Locust Boomer to a pile of meaty chunks in a heartbeat.

Combat Statistics

The Vulcan Cannon is one of the largest man-portable weapons in the COG army, requiring 2 people to use to its fullest potential. One person acts as the weapon's operator, aiming and firing the weapon, whilst the other carries and operates the ammunition canister, keeping the weapon fed with fresh ammunition. In an emergency, the weapon can be operated by one person, but it lacks sustained-fire capabilities like this, since the user will then need to manually load more ammo into the breech after every barrage of ammunition.

Statistically, the Vulcan Cannon has a profile similar to the Mulcher - except that it requires 2 people - and is several orders of magnitude more powerful. The sheer fire rate of the Vulcan Cannon is such that it can tear even the toughest of foes apart in seconds, spraying down a hail of ammuniiton so thick that accuracy is virtually rendered an afterthought. It is an excellent weapon both for suppression and for sweeping large areas, and shines when facing down large numbers of foes at once. Like the Mulcher and Chain Gun, it has a short spin-up and spin down time before its firepower can be brought to bear - unlike the aforementioned, however, the Vulcan Cannon cannot overheat.

Despite the fact that the Vulcan Cannon is bigger than the Mulcher, it is actually lessbulky; devoting the ammunition canister to its own, self-contained unit means that the operator of a Vulcan Cannon has slightly better mobility than a Mulcher operator, though they lack the ability to duck behind cover. The main drawback of the Vulcan Cannon is, along with its need for two people to operate it for it to be used to maximum effect, its voracious appetite for ammunition; it tends to burn off its ammo supply extremely quickly, which all but necessitates a two-man crew operating it for sustained fire.

Lambent Pandemic

Vulcan

The Vulcan was used by the COG during the defense of Anvil Gate from the attacking Savage Locust. Marcus Fenix, with help from Col. Hoffman, used the weapon to mince through the Drones and Maulers.

The Weapon is again used on the road to mercy. Marcus Fenex and Domonic santiago both used one to defend the fuel tanker, driven by Dizzy, from the Locust. They proceeded to carve through waves of Drones, Reavers and Corpsers.

Later, while in Mercy, A stranded man offered Delta Squad the use of his Vulcan to defend themselves from and onslaught of Lambent Humans. Hundreds of formers were vaporized instantly by the cannon, allowing the Squad to carry on with their mission.

Multiyplayer

The Vulcan Cannon is available in Horde Mode as a bonus wave reward. It will be used against you (to devastating effect) in Beast Mode, where it will be used in the final wave, in the defense of Chairman Prescott by the Onyx Guard.

It can also be obtained when completing the easter egg on the map Bullet Marsh, where you have to collect all three pieces of RAAM's serrated blade and later interact with it. Upon doing so, you will receive a Vulcan (without the ammo box) which could be used manually and on the move without a second player. You will still receive the consequences of reduced movement speed and the inability to mount or take cover. Nevertheless, it can be used to the upmost potent effects in Horde.
