Anybody knows if the Longshot is a Locust weapon or a COG weapon? Gears Fanatic 02:04 20 February 2007 (EST) COG--PRIVATE GREY 15:04, September 30, 2009 (UTC)

COG, source Aspho Fields, Bernie has like a Mark 2 or something version of the Longshot.--Jack Black 16:57, September 30, 2009 (UTC)

Butt stock Edit

Am I the only one who noticed that the Longshot is one of the few if not the only weapon with a butt stock? And even then, the grip seems terribly close to the butt stock, so I don't think I'd see someone use the butt stock instead of putting his finger on the trigger. And in the image, the butt stock isn't even used. Wouldn't that mean that unless you're a supersoldier with an extremely firm grip, the weapon would nearly blow itself away with every shot? Bolt Action? Edit

Mand'alore te Kote 10:17, May 19, 2010 (UTC)Am I the only one that finds it odd that a futuristic society still uses a bolt action sniper rifle? It seems odd that when today's society has kick-ass semi-automatic rifles that don't require headshots in order to kill people a futuristic society uses a bolt action rifle that does require a headshot in order to kill. Also if is of high enough caliber to burst a head open with one shot why can't it make a similarly sized hole in the body when fired? This just seems like an incredibly impractical weapon.

Most likely game play balance since an automatic sniper rifle would destroy MP.--Chairman Jack the BlackCOGskull 10:30, May 19, 2010 (UTC)

Your explanation suffices as a game mechanic but not in a military sense. I appreciate the comment though I do believe that a futuristic society like this in the face of extinction would downgrade their weapons like this.--Mand'alore te Kote 21:42, May 29, 2010 (UTC)

It is a game, first and foremost. Game balance is the only answer that is needed. It isn't realistic, because a realistic version of the long shot wouldn't be fun. If you want a military explanation, single shot bolt action rifles are more accurate due to the lack of moving parts, would be cheaper to manufacture, and would be easier to maintain and repair.Unclekulikov 07:34, August 6, 2011 (UTC)

Bolt-Actions are usually better than Semi-autos in numerous ways, they are cheaper and less complicated to build due to fewer moving parts, the bolt-action allows for a larger calibre round than those used in semi-autos. A Bolt-Action is easier to operate and more reliable due to fewer moving parts. Phthinosuchusisanancestor

Mark 2 Longshot. Edit

In page 34 of Aspho Fields, Mataki has a Mark 2 Longshot, it go into detail how the mark 2 is a older model in the longshot family.--JacktheBlack 20:50, June 1, 2011 (UTC)
