Talk:Damon Baird

From Gears of War

[edit] Inspiration

Given GoW's numerous pop cultural references, is Baird, or at least the physical appearance, based off of Charles from Penny Arcade? --ARTaylor 00:25, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I'd have to give that an emphatic no. God no, Hell no, and FUCK NO, would also suffice. Id have to shoot myself if my favorite Gears character was based off anything from that GOD-AWFUL excuse for a "comic". 99.147.124.73 14:30, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Insparation

He looks alot like CID from Final Fantasy (he's a 2003 character) KRYPTON SPARTAN 3:45 PM 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Holy Crap!?!?

[edit] Quotes

I thought it was Marcus that said "eat shit and die." I think he says it in GOW2, when Ben Carmine (?) says something about the Locust eating Imulsion. Something like "They can eat shit and die for all I care." --blue.insanity.child. 8:51AM. 11 March, 2009. (UTC)

Everyone says it randomly during combat. Marcus also has the quote you just mentioned. So yeah... Screennameless - "Goodnight, everybody!" 19:31, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Is there some sort of taboo now on Gears 2 multiplayer quotes? I tried adding some of the funny ones from Baird's repetoire and they were deleted almost instantly.--86.155.211.160 08:13, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

In short, yes. Basically people were adding everything that anybddy ever said, for instance "Shit" said if failing an active reload. So it was decicded that quotes for multiplayer would only be allowed if they character defining. The problem there is what one person calls defining might not be what another person calls defining. Generally they're just removed, --EightyOne (talk) 09:59, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

"No, you don't understand: they hate me, they're still going to shoot." Not only is this a misquote from gears 2 multiplayer, it has also yet to be deleted despite the fact that every COG in multiplayer says something very similar to this. If the deleter thinks THAT quote is more defining than some of the ones that decent contributors have added then either the deleter was the one who made the quotes section in the first place and wants to keep out all other contributions in some wierd bout of pride or there are serious inconsistencies with this 'defining quotes' criterion you're talking about...--86.155.211.160 22:43, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out the MP quote, we try our best at maintaining the wikia but we can't be everywhere.--Jack Black 22:54, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

...Jack, that forum doesn't exist. Screennameless 22:17, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Bio

Break it down into

  • Lightmass offensive (GoW1)
  • Aspho Fields (book)
  • Hollow (comic)
  • Operation Hollow Storm (GoW2)

[edit] Rank

If the book states that Baird is a corporal during the second game, why does the article still refer to him as a private? 68.33.88.16 22:36, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Might I ask which page this comes from? The book was set in between Gears 1 and 2, and so would not talk about the second game. --EightyOne (talk) 23:30, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
I have no idea. The article here, however, states that "during the second game Baird is reortedly [sic] a corporal as it states in the the book." 68.33.88.16 00:33, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm fairly certain that Baird is consistently a private, especially if he remains with Delta - Dom is already the corporal and there's no need for two. However, it has been stated by developers that Baird constantly bounces up and down the ranks - the former for his intellect, the latter for his bad attitude. -Screennameless
What Screen said.Baird rank gos up and down so fast I don't what he is.--Jack Black 02:52, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
If you can find dialogue/cutscene from GoW2 saying his rank it would help.--Jack Black 04:43, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm in the middle of another playthrough, so I'll keep my eyes peeled. Recalcitrancy 05:41, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, just finished Jacinto's Remnant, and it states that he's a corporal -- and the book takes place after GoW2, so... Recalcitrancy 04:04, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
