The Siege of the Slab was a COG military operation at the Jacinto Maximum Security Prison that preceded the Lightmass Offensive. A group of Drones and Wretches assaulted the Slab as the main Locust Horde forces advanced on Ephyra, causing the prison to be evacuated by a Gear platoon after a brief defense by the warders and inmates. All the inmates were pardoned except for former COG Sergeant, Marcus Fenix. Corporal Dominic Santiago then led the rescue effort to evacuate and reenlist Marcus Fenix.
Order of Battle[]
Defending the Slab[]
As the Locust began a push against the Coalition of Ordered Governments' remaining territory in Gale 14 A.E., the baby Corpsers began to emerge from the bathroom pipes of the Jacinto Maximum Security Prison. An imprisoned Gear named Marcus Fenix began organizing a defense of the prison, directing the prisoners to smash the Corpsers with torn off pipes. Marcus told Officer Nikolai Jarvi to contact Col.Victor Hoffman and inform him about the situation in case it was the precursor to more attacks and request that the prison should be evacuated.
After the CIC was informed, Jarvi armed Marcus and Millton Reeve with weapons since they were better shots than the warders. As the inmates secured the numerous pipes and vents around the prison, Edouain led a group in setting a boiling water tank up to kill the Wretches attempting to enter through an abandoned escape tunnel that the prisoners are working on. However, more Wretches entered the prison from another point. Marcus and Reeve led the effort to defend the main wing from the Locust creatures, but had little ammo to do so.[2] In between the waves of Wretches and Corpsers, Marcus sent all of the warders and inmates to Cell Block A which was the most defensible position while he and Reeve went to locate and plug the hole that the Wretches are coming through.[3]
Extraction[]
The inmates and warders made it safely to Cell Block A and were extracted by a Gear platoon under the command of Lt.Schachter, but the two inmates are killed before being rescued. When it was discovered that Marcus was not among those rescued, Schacter demanded that Hoffman should let her go back to the Slab and rescue him, but Hoffman refused due to a battalion of Locust Drones now surrounding the prison.
Marcus and Reeve encountered the Drones in the depths of the prison and managed to kill several before being trapped in a room with several cells and an elevator shaft that led to the surface, but also had Locust climbing up from the bottom. The shaft was too small for Marcus to climb up, but Reeve was able to. After he secured Marcus in a locked cell to keep him safe until he got help to rescue him, Reeve began climbing up the shaft, but was never heard from again.
Rescue of Marcus Fenix[]
After Cpl. Dominic Santiago learned from Chairman Richard Prescott about Col. Hoffman abandoning Marcus Fenix, he demanded Col. Hoffman return to rescue Fenix. After Col. Hoffman still refused to rescue Fenix, Santiago decided to go himself. Col. Hoffman, unable to help but unwilling to stop him, discreetly told Santiago to take an extra set of armor and another Mark 2 Lancer Assault Rifle for Fenix - turning a blind eye to the fact that he took JACK with him.
KR Six-Four and KR Six-One, carrying Delta-One and Victor Squad, attacked the sector while Cpl. Santiago entered the prison through the guard's quarters. Upon entering solitary confinement, Cpl. Santiago shot at several Wretches attempting to one of the last cells. Discovering Marcus Fenix inside, Cpl. Santiago ordered JACK to rip the door. Reunited, Cpl. Santiago officially pardoned Marcus Fenix and reenlisted him as Private in the COG army, giving him a new suit of armor and a Hammerburst. As the two began to exit the solitary block, Delta-Two was almost killed by a missile from KR Six-Four - prompting Cpl. Santiago to order Six-Four to hold their fire.
Cpl. Santiago gave Pvt. Fenix entered combat with the Locust inside the main building and set up a defensive position for the invading Locust from the courtyard. The Locust entered the prison and wounded Cpl. Santiago. Pvt. Fenix eliminated the invading Locust forces and mended Cpl. Santiago's wounds. While outside, KR Six-One and KR Six-Four assaulted the Drones out in the courtyard, but was forced to abort the mission and evacuate Delta-Two from the prison after Six-One was shot down. Six-Four was able to rescue Cpl. Santiago and Pvt. Fenix before a Corpser emerged from the ground. The COG failed in their mission to defend the area, but Cpl. Santiago was able to save Pvt. Fenix to join Delta-One in taking part in the Lightmass Offensive.[4]
