Originally Locust

Scions are a type of creature found within the Swarm.

While Juvies and Drones are created from humans who have been encased in Swarm pods, Scions are former Locust who have broken free from the impenetrable crystal shells that encased them when they were exposed to the Imulsion Countermeasure Weapon, and are now linked to the Swarm's hive mind, serving as commanders in the Swarm army. How they have broken out of the shells is unknown.

They are larger and more resilient than the standard Drones, and are seen wielding heavy weapons. Scions also have the unique ability to strengthen Drones by stomping the ground with one feet and raising their hand up in the air accompany with a strange bright smoke that somehow making Drones harder to kill and more effective in combat.

Scions were first encountered in the osmium mine underneath Fort Reval. JD, Del and Kait were pursuing a Snatcher that had taken JD's father and had entered the mine. They managed to get to the bottom of the mine by using an abandoned ore transporter to travel down.

In the mine's facilities, they would encounter many of the crystallized shells that housed the Locust Drones. Kait inspected several of these shells and noted that they were broken, when a Scion appeared out of a nearby wall. More Scions would appear in the mine, only to be slain by them. Marcus Fenix, after being rescued by the group, went on to explain that when he was in a pod, he was connected to the swarm hive mind. Declaring that the Locust had not died, merely evolved in their crystal shells and were now in charge of the swarm.
