In the 80th year of the Pendulum Wars, Preston and the rest of C Company were fighting in the Independent Republic of Furlin when they heard over the radio that the Union of Independent Republics was going to surrender to the Coalition of Ordered Governments. The Gears began celebrating, but came under attack by Indie mortar fire. Preston and the others began returning fire, and Preston told Sgt.Marcus Fenix that the captain was trying to offer a temporary ceasefire to the Indie commander, who was skeptical that the surrender was real. Marcus told her he doubted that would work, but the Indie commander received word that the surrender was true, and he and his unit surrendered to C Company.[1]
