Locust Written Language
From Gears of War
The Locust's Written Language uses symbols which represent either full words (ex: Explosive is one symbol) or single letters (ex: the letter "t" in English is represented as a flattened 'x'). It is unknown if the Locust pronounce these letters/symbols in any way related to English, or if the symbols representing words are interchangeable with the spelling of the same word.

[edit] Trivia
- Damon Baird is figuring out how to read and understand locust writing.[2]
- Other examples of Locust writing can be found on some of the Collectibles (Gears of War 2) in the War Journal; press "a" to show the actual object without the text summary. Note, this can not be done during gameplay when you first acquire the collectible.
- The Locust images for the Torture Barge and GunBoat both have writting in locust on them.
- The structure of the Locust written language (a symbol alphabet and a separate letter alphabet) is similar to that of many real-life languages, particularly that of Eastern societies such as Japan.
