Indie soldiers attacking South Islanders

The Union Independent Republics Infantry, or Indie, was the main counterpart to the Coalition of Order Goverments Gear. They use the same equipment as the COG Gears, however due to the nature of the UIR many infantry formations consist of different models and types of armour. This can lead to UIR infantry to look contrastingly different to other UIR infantry groups.

[edit] Infantry Equipment

The UIR infantry use the same equipment as COG forces. Both forces use Lancers as their primary weapons and UIR armour is comparable to COG equivalents in terms of defensive capabilities.^[2]

The UIR infantry use both conventional warfare (Battle of Aspho Fields and Siege of Anvil Gate) and unconventional warfare (Sarfuth-Maranday Border Incident).

• In Issue #7 of the Gears of War comic, the UIR soldiers are shown to have very different armor than the COG soldiers. It may be that these Indies are from a different country than the Soldiers in the opening scene of Gears of War 2.
