"GRIIIINNNDDD!"
— Grinder when he is about to fire his Mulcher

The Grinder is a Boomer variant recently fielded by the Locust Horde. They are equipped with a Mulcher Gatling gun, which they can use to lay down thunderous suppressive fire on enemy troops. They wear standard armor with the exception that their chest-plate has a high collar to protect their neck and a high, flat-topped, cylindrical helmet with the Locust symbol shining in the center.

[edit] Combating a Grinder

Grinders are capable of inflicting massive damage and can down an entire group of Gears in seconds as their Mulchers fire many high powered rounds in a short period of time. However, this comes at a price, as they tend to fire their guns until they overheat. Listen for the signature whine and as soon as the gunfire stops, unload everything you have at them. Sometimes Grinders will stop firing for a few seconds and start firing as soon as the player pops out of cover. They will also start firing without saying "GRIND", so caution must be exercised. To know if the Grinder is coming, listen for him shout "Grind!"

Fighting a Grinder at close range without cover is almost certain death as the Mulcher works best at close proximity. It is advisable to attack them from a distance as they do not tend to move while firing or while the gun is cooling. Caution should also be exercised when fighting them as they have a tendency to appear and fight in pairs.

A Mortar or Hammer of Dawn kills them almost instantly, even on Insane. A mortar can also dispose any other enemies nearby.

If you want a one shot kill, get a torque bow, charge the bow and aim for its head. When you line up the shot, let the arrow punch a clean neat hole through his head, even Insane Grinders succumb to a Torque Bow headshot. If you have nothing effective, try to fall back as the Mulcher is less accurate at longer distances.
