Glowbe
"What's with these glowy things?"
"What do I look like, a fuckin' botanist? Some kind of plant, I don't know.
"
Benjamin Carmine and Marcus Fenix, discussing the plant

Glowbes[1] are a large fruit native to the Inner Hollow. They get their name from the distinct red glow they emit and their bulbously round shape. They are the primary food source of the Rock Worm, which will persistently seek out any that fall nearby. During Operation: Hollow Storm, Gears used them to lure Rock Worms out for cover against the defending Locust.[2]

During Operation: Hollow Storm and the Sinking of Jacinto City, the COG recovered enough Glowbe seeds to start making them as a food source. Coalition studies indicate that this hardy, bioluminescent fruit native to the Inner Hollows is featured heavily in not only the diet of Rock Worms, but Locust Drones as well. According to research conducted in Sanctum in Pahanu, the Glowbe is "easy to grow, resistant to disease and requires minimal light and water, making them well suited to situations where the preservation of water and power are crucial". In terms of rationing and resource-intensives, the Glowbe is the least risky and most nutrient dense of all crops excluded in the Sanctum Horticultureal Program. However, a major downside is that it was not considered palatable for humans as it has a mushy, greasy texture with a pungent, sour taste.[3]

It seems that the Glowbe survived the Jacinto flooding as a Seran product known as the Glowbe Gusher was found and sold in Settlement 2 as drink item, suggesting that the COG had found a way to get around with the unappetizing taste and texture of the fruit.[4]
