- "They came during the night."
- —Landown survivors[1]
The Fall of Landown took place during the 'Winter of Sorrow', one of the darkest moments in the Locust War which the city of Landown near the Jacinto Plateau fell to the Locust Horde.
Order of Events[]
Prelude[]
Initially, the attacks on Landown were limited to the Locust forces raiding cargo trucks that had no escorts. Eventually, however, the Locust began laying siege to the city. As a result, the Mayor of Landown asked for more Gears to be sent to help reinforce the city's garrison.
The Fall of Landown[]
The city of Landown was always under heavy threats from Locust incursion. In the fifth year of the war, during the so-called 'Winter of Sorrow', a massive Locust assault began with mortar strikes (Using Nemacysts) and the Locust started taking the unprotected supply trucks out on their way to the city. The COG was already low on supplies. Their failure to protect their own convoys to Landown exacerbated the problem. Landown eventually fell to a massive Locust assault and was quickly turned into a Locust stronghold. Ten years later, the COG would return to Landown not to liberate it, but to use it as a staging ground to attack the Inner Hollow.[1]
Legacy[]
- "I'm no hero. The real heroes are the ones that didn't make it back."
- —Sgt. Hudson Conners to the Jacinto Sentinel
Sergeant Hudson Conners was a Gear soldier honored for his actions at Landown during it's fall. A group of refugees were able to escape from Landown and report the Locust attack.[1] Since Landown's fall took place during the Winter of Sorrow, it was viewed as a bad omen.[2] Though on the positive side, the COG and the Jacinto Sentinel Newspaper were able to find and recognize a hero of the battle, Sgt. Hudson Conners.
