Derricks are vehicles used by the Coalition of Ordered Governments to carry Grime Lifts that they use for mining into Locust tunnels. It has been released in a Gears of War 2 game-play video, showing Marcus Fenix and other Gears defending it from Reavers and Drones.

The Derrick is portrayed in the Gameplay Demo to have a single mounted Chain Gun for defense, in addition to a modest complement of Gears.

[edit] Info

The Derrick is a massive armored truck designed to transport Gears into Locust occupied areas and drop them into the Underground via a large mobile drill platform. Despite it's size and power, the Derrick's pale in comparison to the massive Brumaks, and are quite capable of being destroyed. This is because the Derrick moves rather slowly and is not very maneuverable.

In the trailer, it is revealed that Locust have apparently captured and overrun the crew of at least a few Derricks, and are seen attempting to drive Delta Squad off the road. It is shown that the Locust deploy a series of grapling hooks from ground level to board Delta squad's Derrick. Some drivers give thier Derrick unique paint jobs like Derrick driver Dizzy Wallin. Dizzy is also know to call his Derrick Betty

[edit] Trivia

  • It looks a lot like Halo 3's Elephant except a bit bigger and used for a different purpose.
  • Dizzy, a Stranded conscripted into the COG military during Operation: Lifeboat, serves as a Derrick driver. He calls his Derrick, "Betty".
  • It seems as though the Locust Horde managed to capture one. In the gameplay demo, They are seen trying to ram Betty off the road to stop the remaining COG forces from reaching The Hollow.
