Added by GearsSoilderThe COG Tag was a form of identification worn by Gears of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. Whenever a Gear had fallen in battle, the tags would be retrieved when possible. This was a way to keep track of the soldiers that were killed in action. It has been said that the families of deceased Gears were prepared to pay substantial amounts of money to have the COG Tag of a fallen loved one recovered. The text written on a tag is: "Property of the Coalition of Ordered Governments"

Gears of War
Edit
There are thirty COG Tags (thirty-three in the PC version) scattered throughout the Gears of War campaign. Although many of them are located off the beaten path, every one of them has a corresponding Crimson Omen in the vicinity. Keep your eyes peeled for the spray painted Crimson Omen insignia, as that is your surefire clue that there is a Tag nearby. Some of the Tags are on the floor directly near the Omen, whereas others are less obvious.
There are three achievements for getting the cog tags. When you get 10, 20 and 30 tags you get Time to Remember, Honor-Bound and For the Fallen respectively. As in other achievements the color of the pictures changes due to the difficulty with 30 tags red, 20 tags yellow and 10 tags white as shown to the left.
Minh Young Kim is unlocked as a playable character in the Gears of War 2 Multiplayer after collecting ten COG Tags in the original campaign.

Gears of War 2
Edit
In Gears of War 2, six COG Tags are among the collectibles that can be found throughout the game. All of the COG Tags are accompanied by a letter written by the Gear to his loved ones.
Gears of War 3
Edit
Fifteen of the forty-two collectibles in Gears of War 3 are COG Tags. As in Gears 1, a Crimson Omen on a wall signals that a tag is nearby. Collecting all fifteen earns the achievement "Remember the Fallen."
Gears of War: Judgment
Edit
All forty-eight collectibles in Gears of War: Judgment are COG Tags. As in Gears 1 and Gears 3, a Crimson Omen on a wall signals that a tag is nearby. Collecting ten COG Tags earns the achievement "Never Forgotten", twenty-five earns "Veteran Remembrance" and all forty-eight earn "Respect for the Fallen".
Trivia
Edit
- On the Gears of War 2 cover, some of the COG Tags have Dog Tags on them. In the actual game, there are no dog tags on the COG Tags, just the usual 2 gears.
- NECA sells replica COG tags.
