[edit] Background

Brumaks are huge monsters with extraordinarily thick hides.

They often grow to about 12 meters in height and tend to weigh around 10,000 kilograms (22,046lbs). Brumaks are deadly at close range, and they have also been rumored to carry energy beam cannons to kill at a longer range. They also have been known to carry Drones into combat, as a transportation device. The Brumak's head resembles that of the Corpser, but its body has more in common with humanoids than spiders. The Brumak is very powerful, capable of simply lashing aside a COG APC. Their weapon attachments also appear extremely powerful, firing high-explosive projectiles at its targets.

[edit] Armaments

Several wrist guns as well as a large cannon mounted on its back are the Brumak's primary armaments. The wrist guns have been seen firing in the ending cinematic of Act 4. They fired a strange orange projectile that exploded like a tank shell. Interestingly, the Gears of War Art Book in the LE version of the game says "Rumors of Brumaks carrying Energy Cannons cannot be confirmed." In the PC fight with the Brumak, from start to finish, it does not use and appears to have no Energy Cannon. But this might be that Energy Cannons, most likely made by Imulsion as a key factor(by the Locusts)are only placed on a few Brumaks. Brumaks totting these alleged Energy Cannons may appear in a follow-up.

There has also been a rumor going around that the Brumaks with beam cannons are diggers while the Brumaks with the chain gun turrets are soliders which explains why there are so few records of Brumaks seen with Beam cannons

[edit] Appearances

[edit] Notes

The player never engages a Brumak in combat in the XBox360 version of the game. It had been speculated, however, that there may be confrontation with one of these creatures in one of the planned sequels. This speculation has been a confirmed truth as mentioned in the Microsoft part of E3 2007. Players of the PC version of Gears of War can fight a Brumak in one of the five extra chapters, found exclusive in the PC version. The Brumak will continually stalk the player prior to engagement, similar to the Corpser Delta Team defeated in Act 3.

The Brumak will also appear in Gears of War 2 as a fightable enemy. It was shown in Act 1, Chapter 3 (entitled assault). This was confirmed by a gameplay presentation presented by Cliffy B, the lead designer of the game. Gameplay of Gears of War 2 can be found at http://youtube.com/watch?v=mLgrDbAeDGU. The video gives in depth info about the Brumak and other Locust characters that will be featured in Gears of War 2.

[edit] Trivia

  • In the GoW2 gameplay demo, Brumaks do not have helmets.
  • The strange orange-projectiles the Brumak fires in Act 4 are not again used in the rest of the game or appear in the GoW2 demo. This might indicate it is a special Brumak.
  • The Brumaks were bred from smaller native apes by the Locust Horde. Imulsion might have been the cause of the transformation.
